master sculptor phidias’ thirty five foot ivory and gold cult figure of athena which once stood in the parthenon on the athens acropolis disappeared in ancient times. in 1859, the french archeoogist lenorment discovered a small replica of the lost work which served as a model for jasmine hill’s statuette.
