this replica of a 5th century b.c. relief sculpture from the acropolis museum, athens, greece, was probably a horos (boundary stone) which marked the perimeter of athena’s sacred precinct on the acropolis. it depicts the goddess leaning in sorrow on her spear, gazing downward at the inscription on a funerary monument.
